3. Listening to all the wrong people.

It’s great to get a second or third opinion on most things, but when it comes to your marketing strategy, make sure you ask the experts and not your best friend (unless your best friend happens to be a marketing expert).

Just because Joe’s hot dog business is taking off, it doesn’t mean that his marketing strategy is going to work for Donna’s ballet classes. Make your marketing strategy as unique as your company.

2. Choosing the wrong social media platforms, or none at all.

Whether you’re a huge social media fan or not, social media platforms are key players in marketing strategies. On the other hand, if most of your buyers have boycotted Facebook and strictly use Twitter now (you know, to promote their boycott), then you need to follow them there.

We’ve all been there. Switching or expanding your platform use can be exhausting, especially when you finally figured out which filters you like most on Instagram. However, your loyalty is with your buyers, not with your social media platform.

Just because you are not on Facebook, it doesn’t mean that your clients or prospects are not, and the really scary part is that, if you are not there…then they will follow your competitor’s Facebook instead!

1. Trying to do everything on your own.

Do you know someone who can bake Crème Brulee and cook poached eggs while holding a phone to their ear and carrying a baby chimpanzee?

If you do, we want to meet them! Meanwhile, back in the office, the truth is that a marketing strategy requires a team or it simply won’t be effective. Focus on what you to best as a business owner, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
